With her Grammy award on Sunday night, actor Viola Davis made her entrance into the elite club of EGOT winners around the world, as she became the first actress to get an Emmy award, a Grammy award, an Oscar award, and a Tony award all in the same year.

The African-American was thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in the celebration on stage as she became the third black woman, as well as the 18th person, to have earned this title. After her Grammy win for best album of audiobooks, narration, and storytelling, the 57-year-old actor proudly announced: “I got EGOT!” when she received the award.

As a Television Actress, Davis has been nominated for an Emmy Award, has been nominated for an Academy Award, and has been nominated twice for Tony Awards for appearing in the 2014 and 2016 films Fences and King Hedley II, respectively. On Sunday evening, as she accepted the Grammy award for her book, Viola, she said, “Oh my god, I wrote this book for her. I wrote it for her, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything she stands for.”

There were no female nominees in the category this year, but Davis was the only one from her category. Her competitors included Lin-Manuel Miranda, Questlove, Mel Brooks, Jamie Foxx, and many others. As well Jennifer Hudson, Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, and Whoopi Goldberg, there are a number of other EGOT award winners.
