One of the Indian companies has been targeted after the cough syrup incident. An Indian drug company manufactured an eye medicine that killed a US citizen. Five others lost their sight as a result. Immediately after the news became public, Global Pharma Private Limited removed the eye drop from the US market.
This company is known for producing eye drops that infected Americans with bacteria after they used them. It has caused serious eye damage to a number of citizens. In fact, one citizen even died after using this eye drop. Therefore, the Indian drug agency has banned this eye drop without taking any risks.
According to a report in the New York Times, Indian organizations are using eye drops with dire consequences. There is no doubt that Artificial Tears, manufactured by Global Pharma Pvt Ltd, is easily available in the US market. Many Americans use it every day. In recent days, bacteria attacked a person’s eye after using these eye drops, and he became seriously ill and ultimately died. In addition, five other US citizens have lost their sight completely as a result of using these eye drops.
When news of the incident broke, Indian drug manufacturer Global Pharma Pvt Ltd went into damage control. The company released an official statement that said, “In order to maintain the safety of patients, we have withdrawn Artificial Tears from the market. We are fully cooperating with the US government. The matter is being investigated in its entirety. Although our manufacturing defect is yet to be determined, whether it is responsible for the outbreak remains to be seen.” On the other hand, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has banned eye drops that contain this bacteria.
A similar issue caused controversy about cough syrup a few years ago. African children died from swallowing cough syrup produced by an Indian company.
